Laketown Lutheran Church

Cushing, Wisconsin, USA

Laketown Lutheran is a small congregation when the number of members or the size of the church is considered, but it is a congregation with a big heart. Witnessing to the love that God has for each one of us, we work together to make it a caring, friendly, "family" that welcomes members and visitors alike.

Worship Services

10:30 a.m. Sundays

We hold Lenten services as a parish, alternating each week with First Lutheran, Cushing. Several times each Lenten season we meet for supper and fellowship before the services.

Two or three times a year - on Good Friday, for example - we join other community churches for interdenominational services.

Anyone who likes to sing is welcome to join our congregational choir. At the present time, the choir sings on the first Sunday of each month with rehearsal one hour before the service.

For the Women

The Laketown Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) is an active organization which has at least eight general meetings each year. We are divided into two circles for Bible study in the homes. Naomi Circle meets in the afternoon of the third Wednesday of each month and Rachel Circle meets in the evening of the same day. In June, July, and August we meet jointly.

The women organize and promote a bazaar which is held the first Saturday of October each year. The entire congregation contributes time, talent, and treasure and it has become not only a fund-raiser, but a community social event.

Each winter we meet at the Parish Hall to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief, and rag rugs as well as a few quilts for our bazaar. We also send clothing, soap, health kits, school kits, etc. to Lutheran World Relief and help support other local and national ministries, such as Community Referral Agency, the United Pioneer Home, and the Anne Carlson School in Jamestown, North Dakota.

For the Men

At 7:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month, the men of the parish are invited to meet for breakfast and Bible study.

For the Young People

9:15 a.m. September - May. Sunday School in the Parish Hall for children age 4 - Grade 9. Vacation Bible School is held each summer, usually the first full week of June.

Confirmation classes for young people in Grades 7-8 are held as a parish, meeting September - May on Wednesday evenings.

We are affiliated with Luther Point Bible Camp which is located on Big Wood Lake, Grantsburg, Wisconsin.

There are various youth activities as a parish, with other community churches, and at Luther Point.
