Laketown Lutheran Church History

(continued)

The Parish Hall

Members of the congregation long felt the need for more room for Sunday School, Ladies Aid, and other social functions. It was decided to build a separate building instead of adding on to the original structure.

The Senior League, an adult group in the church, took this on as a project and began a building fund in 1947. Many and varied fund-raisers added to the account. In 1952, East Laketown School was closed after being damaged by fire and was put up for sale. The Laketown church's bid of $610 was accepted and the school was moved to its present site on the church grounds.

A great deal of renovation was required, including the addition of a full basement and an entrance hall.

Through the years, many improvements have been made. A well was dug and a water system was installed in 1978, a gift from Charles Swanson of Houston, Texas in honor of his mother Annie Swanson Berg. Restrooms and an extra basement room were added in 1986-87.

The Parish Hall is now used year-round for many church and community functions and is available for receptions, reunions, 4-H Club meetings, etc.
